To all the diver dads out there, Happy Father’s Day!
Whether you’re a committed cold-water diver or a salty sea-dog of the tropics, at some point, you probably played with your dad in the water. It’s well known that familial ties are strengthened through outdoor recreation, and exploring the planet’s waters can be a particularly potent way to develop the bond between father and child.
That’s why, on this Father’s Day, we wanted to give a hearty shoutout to all the dads out there introducing their kids to the water. Whether in a lake, river, creek or ocean, aquatic sports promote a lifelong curiosity for exploration and thirst for adventure. We believe that every childhood is enriched by opportunities to play in the water, and we’re committed to developing gear that promotes these healthy and positive family experiences across the generations.
The funny thing is: most dads are hard to buy presents for! The reason? They buy all their own toys! We all know that friend (maybe it’s you) who has a garage stocked full of gear and equipment, well past the point of necessity. The truth is, a lot of diver dads are just grown-up kids, and they need their toys, too!
What to Get Your Dad for Father’s Day?
With that in mind, we wanted to offer up some gift suggestions—a curated list of some of our most dad- and husband-friendly gear that’ll definitely make him feel appreciated.
Zeagle: Scope Mono Mask
Renowned for its impressively wide field of vision and comfortable fit, Zeagle’s Scope Mono Mask is the perfect ocular upgrade to your dad’s languishing dive kit. A low-volume, large nose pocket provides comfort, while the simple, over-molded frameless design ensures a smooth fit. Plus, it comes standard with a gray ski-goggle-style elastic strap, so dad’ll enjoy his mask pain free when donning and doffing.
Nobody likes getting stuck without the necessary tool—and that definitely includes papa bear! Not having the correct gear can mean a cancelled dive—or gosh forbid—even worse. Help your dad be prepared for minor malfunctions and gear tweaks with the Zeagle Multi-Tool. A relatively inexpensive option, the Multi-Tool can be used with the Recon fin, as well as all Zeagle regulators and masks to make custom adjustments on the go, at home or in the field.
Zeagle: Ranger BCD
So: you, your family has decided to get dad something big this year for Father’s Day! We recommend the legendary and iconic Zeagle Ranger BCD. It’s outfitted with Zeagle’s Personal Fit System, so no matter if dad puts on a couple pounds, he’ll always be able to adjust it to dial in the perfect fit for his next dive. Plus, it’s tough as nails. Constructed from reinforced 1050 denier ballistic nylon, the Ranger is compatible with a variety of options and accessories, including bladders, pockets, hard backplates, as well as custom attachment components.
Atomic Aquatics: TI6 Titanium Dive Knife
It might seem like a no-brainer, but the Atomic Aquatics TI6 Titanium Dive Knife is an excellent gift idea for your papa bear. It mounts easily on any BCD and will let him cut through lines or hazardous obstructions in case of emergency. Its rust and corrosion resistant and the lockable sheath keeps other gear safe while not in use. Available in both a blunt and/or pointed tip. Have your diver dad mount it to his kit and use it as a safety backup.
Atomic Aquatics: Frameless Mask
Wanna give your pop the gift of superb optical wideness and clarity? Look no further than the Atomic Aquatics Frameless Mask. Enhanced with UltraClear lenses and an easily packable frameless body that’ll go anywhere, the Frameless Mask was designed to bring elite levels of performance to any spot on the planet. We used a computer to maximize upward, downward and side-to-side vision. And because an external frame is not needed, the viewable area of the lens is optimized for visual output.
Atomic Aquatics: SplitFins
This Father’s Day, why not flip the script and replace dad’s old beat-up flippers with the remarkably bio-enhanced Atomic Aquatics SplitFins. Atomic SplitFins use Propeller-Fin™ Technology to deliver ultra-high speeds with a small-range rapid flutter kick, much like a boat propeller accelerates it to higher speeds. By leveraging a “split” design, the SplitFin mimics some of the planet’s best swimmers—in the process cutting kicking fatigue. Translation? Overall drag is reduced and efficiency is increased dramatically.
